Double terminated quartz crystals are quite rare in the mineral kingdom because most quartz crystals grow from a common base, as is the case with many geodes and clusters. Thus, to find a cluster of double terminated crystals takes lots of luck.
By the way, how are double terminated quartz crystals formed?
Double terminated crystals are formed when the crystals solidified under aqueous conditions without a supporting rock matrix. Most quartz actually form directly from igneous magma, and as the magma cools and solidifies, so the crystals “form” and “sprout” from the rock matrix. This is not the case with most double terminated crystals though.
Being rare and unique, double terminated crystals or DTs are much sought after by crystal collectors. Crystal healing practitioners use them for their alleged heightened energy transference properties. It must be admitted, a small double terminated crystal worn as a necklace is unique and spirited (and very eye catching) at the same time!
