Botox is purified Botulinum Toxin Type A produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. Vials of Botox also contain human albumin and sodium chloride (salt) without a preservative in a sterile vacuum-dried form which is reconstituted with sterile saline.

How does Botox work? Botox binds with motor nerve terminals in the body to inhibit the release of a chemical called Acetylcholine. When injected locally into a muscle Botox produces a reversible paralysis of that muscle.

At Wells Plastic Surgery Lexington Botox is used to treat dynamic wrinkles of the face and muscular cords of the neck. The areas most commonly treated are the wrinkles between the eyebrows (glabellar frown lines), forehead and crows feet.
