A non-fasting cholesterol check may be adequate for screening purposes, but for patients on certain types of cholesterol therapy a fasting cholesterol check sample may be required for the most accurate measurements as well as for someone with borderline or high cholesterol levels. While triglycerides do show significant changes based on what was eaten just prior to testing, and are more accurate when measured in the fasting state, or with a “fasting cholesterol check”, cholesterol levels are not extremely sensitive to the foods you have just eaten.
