If you think that you and your family are safe and sound when your front and back doors are locked, it not always true. Lock bumping is the most dangerous thing in the lock security world. All doors in your neighborhood can be unlocked or opened in a few seconds with almost no sound via bump keys. A lot of people in America use a pin tumbler lock which is defenseless to lock bumping.

Our current door locking systems originated in the late 1800s and have not been updated since. Bump keys were discovered in the 1970s by locksmiths in Denmark. Eventually, the practice of lock bumping reached American shores with the introduction of the internet. Fortunately, a bump proof lock is now available to the public. You only have to replace your old pin tumbler lock with a new high security lock to protect yourself, your family and your valuables against lock bumping.

Lock bumping keys pose a real danger to the security of most front door locks. Making a bump key is child’s play and they can be manufactured very quickly. In just a few seconds, the lock is turned and the safety and security of your premises has been compromised for thieves and intruders.

A bump proof lock does not need to be an expensive purchase since any local locksmith can turn a regular lock into a bump proof lock for a small fee. To stop bump key violations and lock picking tools you should try a new device that is on the market.

Some bump keys out there will be able to defeat any lock. At heart, a bump key is just a key blank which has been filed down to the lowest level meeting each tumbler. It then can slide into the key chamber and allow the burglar to quickly bypass your lock and access your property in just a few seconds worth of effort.

Remember than security and cost are not synonymous terms. Indeed, the cheap lock is quite often more secure to a tooled key than its high dollar cousin. The reason for this is that such devices cost more precisely because they are both sturdier and more finely tooled. If your main concern is bump key prevention, you are better off with the cheap lock. Particularly if reinforced with preventative measures, a tooled key will probably just break in the lock. This then results in the home becoming completely inaccessible until a visit from a locksmith.

Even if you feel secure by locking your doors, it could take less than a minute to open your home with a technique called lock bumping. A bump key can unlock conventional mechanical locks in a matter of seconds and the key itself is easily made. But there are bump key prevention systems on the market. A local locksmith can convert a standard lock into a bump proof lock, effectively preventing lock bumping. Do not think an expensive lock will necessarily be safer, they might actually be more susceptible to lock picking because they are more durable.
