Natural pain reliever found in human saliva

Posted in General Resources, Health and Medicine by announcer

Recent research indicates that your saliva contains a chemical called opiorphin, which is six times more effective than dangerous narcotics such as morphine yet lacks the addictive and psychological side effects. When the researchers subjected test rats to a painful stimulus, 1mg of opiorphin per kg of body weight achieved the same painkilling effect as 3mg of morphine per kg of body weight.

The substance was so successful at blocking pain that, in a test involving a platform of upended pins, the rats needed six times as much morphine as opiorphin to render them oblivious to the pain of standing on the needle points.  Catherine Rougeot at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France, who led the research, says “Its pain-suppressive effect is like that of morphine. But we have to test its side effects as it is not a pure painkiller, as It may also be an anti-depressive molecule.”

Get a truly unique pendant jewelry

Posted in Arts and Humanities by announcer

If someone wants to sell you, say, a silver necklace, they will try to get as much money as possible out of it, even though it is simply a silver chain with a relatively simple silver ornament hanging from it. But you can assemble the same pendant jewelry for a fraction of the price if you are only willing to go out and buy the jewelery pendant in one place and the silver chain in the other. Keratosis pilaris tends to fade as we get older.

Posted in General Resources, Health and Medicine by announcer

Keratosis Pilaris is an inherited skin condition that affects 40 percent of adults worldwide. The problem stems from a buildup of cells that get trapped around hair follicles. KP typically occurs on the backs of the arms, thighs, buttocks, or cheeks, and is often confused with acne or eczema. It becomes more severe during winter, when low humidity causes dry skin.

KP is caused by the excessive production of keratin accumulating around hair follicles. It bears no health risk, but is considered unsightly and is likely to negatively impact a sufferer’s self esteem.

To prevent halitosis you must attack its cause.

Posted in General Resources, Health and Medicine by announcer

It is indeed a mystery why bad breath and halitosis are separate words when both are in fact describing the very same condition. Much the same issue occurs with gum disease and periodontal disease and for a very similar reason: one term is used in general conversations while the other is preferred by the medical community. Bad breath is the general term and halitosis is the word used in medical circles but there is no difference between the two. In both cases, there are some very basic causes:

  • Food particles left in the oral cavity
  • An infection of the mouth, throat, or teeth
  • Gum Disease—or if you prefer, gum disease!
  • Reduced Salivation
  • Acid Reflux
  • Low Carbohydrate Diet

Even without the presence of an infection, there are always bacteria present in the mouth. It is these bacteria that form Volatile Sulfur Compounds, or VSC’s. These compounds are the actual causes of bad breath. You can typically get rid of bad breath by simply brushing and flossing. Although rotting food may be the cause of bad breath, this is not typical because particles are rarely in the mouth long enough to cause major problems. In most cases, halitosis or bad breath is the result of an infection in your mouth.
Unless the source of infection is either removed or treated, no permanent halitosis remedy is possible. When no infection can be found, then you might want to try brushing the tongue as bacteria may be forming VSC’s on its surface and causing the bad breath problem. However, this is typically a cause of mild halitosis. If you are suffering from chronic or severe bad breath problems, an infection is far more likely.

African American Christmas Ornament

If you are looking for a good African American Christmas Ornament, you might have to look a long way to find something that satisfies your tastes. Yes, there are a lot of African American Christmas Decorations out there, but most of them are really not all that nice. Basically, they are just normal Christmas tree ornaments repackaged as being African American Christmas Ornaments for some cheesy, lame reason. I have even seen plain old glass baubles sold as an African American Christmas Ornament set because they were in red, yellow, and green. Have you ever heard of something quite that silly? I know that I have not.
